Founded in 2004 by African-American Unschooling, a national network of Black
homeschooling families, the African-American Homeschoolers Family and Friends Vacation is
an annual celebration of cultural heritage and family learning.
The AAHFFV began at the Grand Canyon in Arizona where families from six states camped on the South Rim in 2004. In 2005, the sold-out event was held on the Gullah Islands of South Carolina with over 100 people in attendance.
The Third
Annual AAHFFV in August 2006, was held on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls for 5 days and 4 nights
of camping at Rock Point Provincial Park in Dunnville, Ontario.
